John Kimball’s racing biography.

A Little History:

From an early age John had a love of cars. He has also been an active gamer since the late 80’s when he received a Nintendo for Christmas. John has a unique story for his intrduction into racing. He didn’t race carts as a kid or come from a racing heritage. He was driven to auto racing through the Gran Turismo Racing Simulation series on the Playstation 2. After a few years of constant gameplay, he grew tired of sitting on the couch and wanted to go race for real.

John heard about a little known sport called “autocross” from a couple of friends and decided to give it a try. He attended the Solo Novice School organized by the Northwest Region SCCA and had so much fun he never looked back. John had found something that he was really good at!

The Autocross Years:

John began his autocross career in 2006 when he raced a 1986 VW Golf. In 2007 he made the switch to a 1999 Mazda Miata 10th Anniversary Edition and campaigned it in street tire class in two local series. Season Hightlights: John won his class at two events and placed in the trophies at 12 out of 19 events. At the end of the season, John finished 2nd in the Western Washington Sports Car Club Series (WWSCC) and 3rd in the NWR-SCCA series. He also won C-Stock at the Packwood National Tour.

In 2008 John made the switch to R-Compound tires and decided to compete in the Open PAX class with the 10AE. Season highlights: John took 3rd in C-Stock at the Packwood National Tour with the top time of day in his class on day two.

In 2009 John continues to race his Miata and has won his class in 4 out of 5 events with 4 Top Ten overall finishes. Season Highlights: John won C-Stock at the Packwood National Tour and is leading in season points in the local SCCA S2 class. Stay tuned to see how he finishes out the season!

The Road Racing Years:

So it begins…in August 2009 John purchased a 1990 Mazda Miata and is beginning the Spec Miata build process. Follow his progress.

John is also Road Racing in The 24 Hours of LeMons and the Chumpcar World Series with the Autosport Lab Rats

John’s racing heroes include: Keiichi Tsuchiya, Jason Saini, and Randy Pobst.
